November 26, 2019 - Preparedness is a part of everything we do at Healthcare Ready. When we’re not helping during disaster response, we help communities prepare for all the hazards that may threaten their health, from hurricanes and wildfires to disease outbreaks and cyberattacks.
This year, we’re also preparing early for Giving Tuesday, the annual day of charitable giving celebrated the Tuesday after Thanksgiving!
Starting Tuesday, November 26 through Giving Tuesday, December 3, we’ll share a new story every day of how we’ve helped heroes and survivors during disasters.
While our Giving Tuesday stories will focus on our actions in moments of response, preparedness is at the heart of our work year-round. Why does this matter? In our field of emergency management, an ounce of preparedness is worth a pound of response – so your donation enables us to help communities weather future disasters by building resilience today.
We safeguard and strengthen communities by working at every level from communities on the ground up to the Federal government: We train community leaders, from pastors to advocates to counselors, to be ready to support their most vulnerable populations. We make connections and build networks between emergency managers, community leaders, and healthcare providers to build relationships to make sure critical sharing of information – and resources, like medicines – happens, even during crisis. And we research how communities prepare to ensure we, healthcare providers, and government agencies know how we can improve to make preparedness more accessible to as many people as possible. That’s not all – you can read mor about our programs here.
